It's Not About the War, It's About Our Troops!

I know I posted a video just the other day, but my cousin, Nannette, sent me this one and I feel like I need to post it. Her son is one of our brave young men fighting "over there" for his second tour. We're all proud of him, but we worry, too.

I'm an Air Force brat and I suffered through a year of my Dad being in Vietnam. I know the worrying that goes with having a loved one "over there," and it's a fear that eats at you the whole time they're gone, every waking moment. It's especially painful when others say horrible things about the troops over there just because they're fighting a war that others disagree with. Talking about the troops includes our loved ones.

Whether you agree with the war is beside the point. These soldiers are Americans and they need and deserve our support and our respect. The young lady who made this video, Lizzie Palmer, is only 16, but she eloquently reminds us to remember that these soldiers are our friends, neighbors, relatives... It's a beautiful video, and I hope that you'll watch it and then take a moment to think about our troops. Then take another moment and think about the people who are waiting for them.

The Cat Wins

You just HAVE to watch this video sent to me by friend and fellow cat-lover, Megan. I really couldn't stop laughing! Haven't we all known a cat just like this?

Enjoy....

Happy Valentines! and Winners!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I know everyone is waiting to hear who won the One-World-One-Heart prizes. But first, I have to thank Lisa Oceandreamer for the tremendous amount of work she put into organizing and overseeing this event that just got bigger and bigger every day! Lisa, you must not have slept at all! THANK YOU, LISA!!! There will be a little prize in the mail for you, too. (smile)
and now... Drum roll, please.... the WINNERS, ladies and gentlemen...

this cardinal pin will be flying off to Kathy Wasilewski

Beverly Todd will soon be wearing this apple pin

and this duckie goes to Fran Saperstein

I used a random number generator provided by Violets are Blue. Thank you to them - it was so much easier than cutting up bits of paper! I went through my comments, counted the duplicates and the deleted ones, then entered the numbers. I selected three winners in the order above.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and commented - I wish I could have given something to everyone who stopped by! I had such a good time visiting everyone's blog and seeing so many talented and creative artists. I bookmarked all the blogs and I plan to go back and visit when I have time to sit with my coffee and have a leisurely visit. I hope that some of you are inspired to come back here and look around again. You'll see more quilling, but you'll also see some jewelry - I just got a new fun tool, so just you wait! And you'll see some other art, so please drop in again! Y'all come back now, ya hear!

Big Giant Hug to Everyone!
Happy Valentine's Day - again!!

Mardi Gras in Hillsborough

Oh, we had some fun last night here in our little town! We didn't have a parade but we did have a PARTY! Our favorite restaurant is Tupelo's, which is a New Orleans kind of place so, of course, they had to celebrate Mardi Gras! And the place was packed - there wasn't a seat to be had - even the seats at the bar were reserved! There were beads, of course, and masks, and a few tophats - moi was sporting a lovely, sequined, tophat in Mardi Gras colors!

It wouldn't be a party without some music and dancing, eh? The band, Zydecopious, was fabulous! They are a real Zydeco band! There is no way to sit still when they are playing! I mean, I had to get up while I was still eating to dance! Usually, you wouldn't be able to pull me away from my Crab Cakes! Before the night was over, a couple of Hillsborough guys were playing the frottoir, a type of washboard, with them. Tupelo's owner, Matt Carroll, was playing the tambourine, and my husband, Randy, was playing the spoons. Yes, I would say that a good time was had in Hillsborough on Mardi Gras!

**********
Switching topics... I want to tell you about an Easter basket contest that you really shouldn't miss. I heard it about through one of the One-World-One-Heart participants. If you go over to see this basket at Notes & News From Nancy and leave a comment, you'll be entered in her drawing. She's a very talented artist, making beautiful rabbits, Santa's, chicks, cats, you name it! I'd be thrilled to just get the rabbit that she's including in this basket!
And don't forget to leave a comment to enter my drawing for the quilled cardinal pin. I've had a good time visiting the other participants' blogs in this One-World-One-Heart event - it's really been an experience to see what other artists are doing, and to see just how generous everyone is! Somebody commented that "it's all about connection." It is that and it's also about learning about others and visiting blogs that we wouldn't even know about if not for Lisa and this great idea of hers. Ok, I'm done...

One World, One Heart

Wow! It's been a LONG time since I posted! But, I'm here again because I decided to join in on this fun One World, One Heart fun giveaway that is being sponsored by Lisa Oceandreamer. This is her second year doing this and it's such a neat way of getting the blogging community to connect with each other. Go to her website if you want the details and a list of blogs who are participating.

I'm going to give away this quilled cardinal pin, which is about 2 and 1/4 inches long. All you need to do is leave me a comment on this post. Make sure you leave your email address if you don't have a blog so I'll know how to get in touch with you if you're the winner. I'll draw a name on February 14th and announce the winner that day. I'll get in touch with the winner and let you know that you won.

Good luck!
Note: I had a question about international participants. YES, I will send this bird anywhere in the world. How cool would that be to have one of my pins traveling across the big water?? Just make sure I have a way of contacting you if you're the winner - either on your blog or by email.

Feb. 11 Note: WOW!! Since there has been so many comments - 156 already! I've decided to offer 2 more prizes, so there will be THREE winners! I am going to number all of the comments, then use a random number generator to choose 3 numbers. I will choose these numbers on February 14, so all entries need to be by midnight, EST, on February 13. I will contact the winner by email, or on their blog. You might want to check back here, too just to see if you might have won. Once I notify the winner, she/he will have 5 days (to allow for work, vacations, etc) to get in touch with me about where to send your prize.

The prizes will be more quilling. An apple pin and a duck pin. I hope you like these...
